Creatives only pay a monthly contribution of 1.50 euros per square metre of used shop space as part of the funding, regardless of location.

Those who have a creative interim use promoted through Frei_Fläche benefit from many advantages: Creatives pay only 1.50 euros per square metre and all other operating and ancillary costs are covered by the programme, which also finances the deposits. There is no rent or lease. You decide for yourself how long and for what purpose you rent a space. The times of use can be adjusted accordingly, so that a space can also be used as a temporary exhibition or sales area.

Who is eligible to apply?
Eligible to apply are:
- Individuals, partnerships, companies working professionally in the creative industries in Hamburg
- formal associations of actors who work professionally predominantly in the creative industries in Hamburg
- public and private educational institutions that provide training in the creative industries in Hamburg
- in individual cases, funding can also be provided to interim users from Hamburg whose field of activity borders on the creative industries and whose operating models or uses can be expected to have a comparable effect.
How long may the interim use last?
The funding programme ends on 31.12.2023. Until then, you decide yourself how long and for what purpose you rent a space. The periods of use can be adjusted accordingly, so that a space can also be used as a temporary exhibition or sales area.
What exactly is being promoted?
Creatives pay a monthly contribution of 1.50 euros per square metre - the difference to the actual price per square metre is covered by the funding programme. In addition, measures that draw attention to the interim use are funded. The prerequisite is that creative economic services are commissioned. These can be, for example: the use, design or decoration of shop windows, façades and outdoor areas, measures to communicate and advertise interim uses and associated events, or artistic and cultural contributions for interim uses and events during the interim use.

Kurzbiografie

Celina Behn is in charge of the funding program "Frei_Fläche: Raum für kreative Zwischennutzung" (Free_space: space for creative interim use) as project manager within our Space unit.

Celina Behn studied Urban Planning at HafenCity University Hamburg and has already worked in various practical fields in the urban development sector. In various projects (including with Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft), she dealt thoroughly with the interactions between creative industries and urban development.

Step 1

Draw up a standard contract

In order to be able to apply for funding from the Fund for Creative Interim Use, you must first draw up a contract with the landlord or landlady on your own. The basis for this is the Frei_Fläche model contract, the template of which you can find in the download area. Please note: The contract only becomes effective with a binding funding commitment from Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft.

Apply for funding

Funding request is granted or rejected

In the last step, you will find out whether your application has been approved. If all the documents submitted meet the funding conditions, there is nothing standing in the way of a creative business interim use. We will then conclude a funding contract that contains the rules and details of the funding.
