Hochwasserbassin

From industrial monument to creative centre

Hochwasserbassin -

Since 2016, Hochwasserbassin has been developing into a popular creative quarter in Hamburg's east. For fourteen years, from 2000 to 2014, the former waterworks site stood empty. Yet the Hammerbrook district, with its office complexes, old factory buildings, warehouses with their brick facades, waterways and green spaces, offers a lot of potential for creative work. In 2012, we became aware of the vacancy and began to implement the vision of a creative hotspot in close coordination with the cultural authority.

At the beginning, there was a refurbishment of 650,000 euros, financed by the cultural authority and lasting several months. Since 2018, two concepts that prevailed in an expression of interest process have now been filling the flood basin with life: A workshop for film production vehicles with a plate pressing plant and the association Kulturelles Neuland e. V., which is converting two buildings into a centre for art and creative culture.
