Frei_Fläche

Already 24,000 m² less vacant space and more than 100 ideas on how to use it: Frei_Fläche has been promoting creative interim uses since July 2021.

Frei_Fläche -

For more than two years, we have been transforming vacant spaces in Hamburg into temporary studios, workshops, exhibition spaces, co-working spaces, presentation spaces and much more with the help of the Fund for Creative Interim Use. Creatives only pay a monthly contribution of 1.50 euros per square metre as part of the funding programme, which ends on 31 December 2023 - landlords benefit from the revitalisation of their vacant space. The JUPITER creative planet directly at the station is the largest free space - but there is much more to discover!

The project

Deserted shops and empty streets characterised the cityscape when the Corona Lockdowns paralysed public life. At the same time, creative people were fighting for their livelihoods. The City of Hamburg reacted in 2021 with the "Fund for Creative Interim Use", which was financed with funds to deal with the Corona crisis - and thanks to its great success, was extended with budget funds in 2023. Together with the Department of Culture and Media, the Finance Department and the Landesbetrieb Immobilienmanagement und Grundvermögen, we developed the funding programme and have since facilitated numerous creative interim uses from Altona to Bergedorf.

Join in

If you are interested in a creative interim use, you can upload your concept here. Then take a look at our property database, activate the filter "Frei_Fläche" and leave your email address with the offers that interest you. We will then forward your concept to the landlords and establish contact if there is mutual interest. An important note: We cannot guarantee that your idea will be successfully placed - but meaningful pictures and a clear description increase your chances of a successful creative interim use.
