20 years of Gamecity Hamburg
Gamecity Hamburg has been supporting and promoting the local games industry for 20 years and is planning some special activities and events in its anniversary year.
Hamburg has established itself as one of the games hotspots in Europe: 2,500 people work in the city in over 190 companies in the games industry. Since its foundation in 2003, the location initiative Gamecity Hamburg has supported the industry on behalf of the city of Hamburg - and was thus the first public funding institution for the games industry at the state level in Germany. Gamecity Hamburg has been part of the municipal Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft since 2018. In its anniversary year, the location initiative is planning numerous events and activities to focus on the regional games companies and celebrate together.
Gamecity Hamburg supports the industry today with the funding programmes Prototype Funding and Games Lift Incubator, for which 520,000 euros in funding is available annually, as well as with numerous events, such as the international Hamburg Games Conference, the Gamecity Treff, which has existed as an industry-wide get-together since 2003, and other various formats for exchange and knowledge transfer.
The digital channels of Gamecity Hamburg will also present players from Hamburg's games industry and their stories from the last two decades throughout the year 2023. Anniversary year 2023: Gamecity Hamburg celebrates the Hamburg games industry
To celebrate the games industry in Hamburg on the occasion of the anniversary, various activities and events are planned to look back on the past decades, but above all to look into the future of the games industry in Hamburg.
For example, there will be a senate reception on 20 April at the invitation of Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media. Numerous invited guests from the German and Hamburg games industry are expected at the Hamburg City Hall.
With 20 years of existence, the Gamecity Treff is a fixed institution in the German games industry. The industry and all interested parties can look forward to a jubilee edition of the Gamecity Treff, to which Gamecity Hamburg invites on 24 May. The Gamecity Treff is supported by the sponsors Bigpoint, Bytro and The Sandbox.
All interested parties can also make a note of the Gamecity Treff meets Polaris on 13 October, which is adjacent to the Hamburg Community Convention Polaris, kindly supported by the sponsors InnoGames and AWS for Games.
Further public events are already being planned and will be announced in the course of the year.
